❄️ 7 Winter Journal Prompts for Reflecting and Deciding

How to do the important work of winter - reflect, decide, and rest - to set up the other seasons of your life

Hiking a snowy trail in the Swiss Alps

I spent last week in Switzerland writing and learning more about burnout for my mental health reporting beat.

The timing of this trip was fortunate as this alpine region is a dreamy setting to do the “work of winter.” It was also timely as this has been an emotionally dynamic season with my grandmother transitioning to the ancestral realm on the same day the book was released to the world.

But my grandmother was a huge inspiration to my work - she helped me flesh out the PURPOSESCAPING framework that guides my coaching work. It's an agricultural metaphor that loosely mirrors the farming work that took place in the Southeast region of the United States where my family took roots here.

In fact, chapter eight of The Rest Revolution is titled PURPOSESCAPING. And in it, I share that the winter season of any life cycle is a time to reflect, make decisions, and rest.

Here are a few of the winter journal prompts for reflection + decision I pondered during my trip:

❄️ What worked well this year?

❄️ What is still working in my life that I will keep?

❄️ What has expired? What is no longer working?

❄️ What do I plan to leave behind?

❄️ What do I intend to seed in my life in the coming spring planting season?

❄️ What MOVED me this year?

❄️ What am I hungry for more of?

Let me know if you explore any of these winter journal prompts.

I'm so excited about my winter revelations and all I plan to plant next.
